Phil Taylor has insisted that the hot weather could be a factor as he attempts to win his seventh successive World Matchplay title.
The sixteen-time world champion is bidding for his 14th Blackpool crown, and while he was already expecting a competitive tournament, he also believes that the high temperatures could take their toll on the players.
The 52-year-old told Sky Sports News: "We play in lots of great arenas but Blackpool's my favourite. It's been very kind to me over the past 20 years and I've got a lot of great memories at the Winter Gardens.
"I know it's going to be a massive challenge in Blackpool next week, not just with the quality of the field but also for everyone with the lovely weather we're having because it makes it hotter on stage.
"I've been doing a lot of hard work recently to get fitter and lose some weight and it's coming together. I'm practising well too and looking forward to Blackpool. I'll be ready."
Taylor gets his campaign underway against Stuart Kellett on Monday night.
