Michael van Gerwen overturns an early deficit to beat Chas Barstow and reach the PDC World Championship third round.

Michael van Gerwen has overcome a slow start to record a 3-1 victory over Chas Barstow in the PDC World Championship second round.

Barstow, competing in his first-ever World Championship, established an early lead after Van Gerwen had missed seven darts for the opening set, allowing the debutant to take out a 116 checkout for the set.

Van Gerwen found himself down in the second before powering back, and the Dutchman dominated the latter stages of the contest to secure his place in the last 32.

Earlier in the night, former Lakeside runner-up Jim Williams progressed through to the second round with a scrappy 3-1 victory over Ted Evetts, who missed 22 of his 27 attempts at double.

Rowby-John Rodriguez made light work of Welshman Nick Kenny, while Adam Hunt hit five 180s on the way to defeating Boris Krcmar on by a 3-0 scoreline.

Fallon Sherrock gets her campaign underway on Sunday night as she takes on former Lakeside world champion Steve Beaton.
