Michael van Gerwen has reflected on his whitewash of Phil Taylor by saying that no player will ever match the 16-time world champion's achievements.
The current world number one defeated 'The Power' 7-0 at Liverpool's Echo Arena on the opening night of the Betway Premier League, averaging a throw of over 109.
"All the pressure was on my shoulders," the 24-year-old told Sky Sports News following the victory. "I was favourite in this game and that made it more difficult for me. I played so well and he didn't even bother me.
"I can't remember anyone ever beating Phil 7-0. He didn't play his top game, I understand that, but I played really well. I know Phil is number two in the world at the moment and I'm number one, but he's won 16 World Championships.
"I can play very well, but I don't think anyone will ever win as many tournaments as he has. It's very special and he's a great person who will be right back next week."
Van Gerwen's victory sends him to the top of the league table.
