Joe Murnan edges out Andy Hamilton at World Championship

Former finalist Andy Hamilton is out of the World Championship after losing 3-2 to Joe Murnan at Alexandra Palace.

Andy Hamilton has suffered a 3-2 defeat to Joe Murnan to become the eighth seed to bow out of the World Championship.

The 2012 finalist held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but he could not shake off debutant Murnan, who capitalised on his opponent missing several match darts to force a decider.

The final set went back and forth before Murnan finished strongly to take it 6-4 to set up a second-round clash with either Robert Thornton or Alan Norris.

Mensur Suljovic is through to the last 32 after averaging over 99 to beat Jermaine Wattimena, although he had to come from behind to eventually seal a 3-1 win.

Jamie Caven sealed his place in the next stage with a 3-0 victory over New Zealander Rob Szabo, who had earlier progressed through his preliminary round contest.
