Michael van Gerwen has raced into the last four of the Players Championship Finals in Minehead by beating Wes Newton 9-4.

The top seed made the perfect start, hitting tops to break Newton in the opening leg. However, 'The Warrior' took out an impressive 104 finish to level the match straight away.

Two 180s from Van Gerwen in leg three then allowed him to break again, as he went out in 11 darts.

The Dutchman, who averaged 102.51 and registered six of the game's 12 180s, won seven of the next 10 legs, checking out a maximum 170 finish in the process.

He will face opposition from Stoke-on-Trent this evening, as his semi-final opponent will be either Ian White or Andy Hamilton.
