Mervyn King has picked up his second PDC Pro Tour win of 2011 after he beat Wes Newton 6-3 to win Sunday's Players Championship event in Benidorm.
King, who won the opening event of the year in Germany, shared the opening six legs of the final with Newton before he took command and sealed the victory with a 136 checkout.
He had earlier defeated Ronnie Baxter, Colin Osborne and Jamie Caven before he overcame Newton, who had reached the final after he had ousted Raymond van Barneveld in the last-four.
Van Barneveld's route to the semi-finals included a 6-4 triumph over Phil Taylor at the last-32 stage, which gave the Dutchman successive wins over the 15-time world champion.
Before the start of play, Simon Whitlock was forced to withdraw from the event with an ankle injury, which makes him a doubt for the Grand Slam of Darts which begins in under two weeks.
