Michael van Gerwen to meet Phil Taylor in World Matchplay final

Michael van Gerwen will meet Phil Taylor in the World Matchplay final after both players came through their semi-final matches on Saturday evening.

Michael van Gerwen has moved one match away from successfully defending his World Matchplay title after recording a 17-9 victory over Adrian Lewis.

The world number one dominated the contest from the start and although Lewis matched the Dutchman from 8-3 to 12-8, he never looked like denying his opponent another appearance in the final.

During the closing stages, Van Gerwen's finishing was superb as Lewis began to falter, and he comfortably closed out the match to set up a showdown with Phil Taylor.

The 15-time champion produced arguably the performance of the competition to see off Gary Anderson, with the Stoke-on-Trent thrower averaging above 100 throughout the match.

Taylor eventually ended on 101.41 and a checkout rate of 50% as he ran out a convincing 17-8 winner.
