English diving youngster Matthew Dixon would "love" to emulate Tom Daley's success

Matthew Dixon, the youngest male diver at the Commonwealth Games, says that he would "love" to emulate the success of role model and fellow Plymothian Tom Daley.

Fourteen-year-old diver Matthew Dixon has said that he would "love" to emulate his role model and fellow English diver Tom Daley and win gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Dixon made his bow on the international stage at this year's Games alongside Daley, finishing 10th in the 10m platform event at the same age that Daley placed seventh at the Olympics in 2008.

Although Dixon, who comes from Plymouth like Daley, doesn't want to gaze too far into the future, he does believe that he can break onto the world stage like his teammate.

When asked if he would like to see himself on the top of the podium where Daley was this evening, Dixon told reporters: "I don't like to think of long-time goals but I'd love to.

"[Tom] has been really supportive. He's helped me since I was young because he used to train in Plymouth, so he's been really nice."

On his overall experience at the Games, Dixon told Sports Mole: "I've took all the experience in, had fun and it's been really good competition. It's definitely one of my highlights of my life. It's my first time at the Commonwealths, I'm only 14 and I've had really good fun."

Dixon won 10m gold at the British Gas Diving Championships earlier this year in Sheffield.
