Great Britain's Anthony Harding and Jack Laugher missed out on a third successive World Aquatics Championships medal as they finished fifth in the men's 3m springboard synchro diving final.

The duo had finished as runners-up to China at the 2022 and 2023 editions and were on course for another podium finish in Doha, but two poor final dives proved costly as they posted a total of 376.26.

Harding and Laugher sat at the top of the rankings after two rotations and occupied second place with just two dives remaining, but disappointing execution scores - including a couple of 3.5s - on their penultimate dive saw them score just 59.28 for that attempt.

The Britons were still clinging onto third place ahead of their final and most difficult routine, but another underwhelming score of 63.18 pushed them out of the medals and into fifth place.

China unsurprisingly stormed to the world title largely unopposed, finishing with a total of 442.41, while Italy (384.24) edged out Spain for the silver medal, finishing just 0.96 marks better off than the bronze medallists (383.28).

Mexico also capitalised on GB's late collapse to place fourth with 383.19 after six dives, but on a brighter note for the Brits, Hector Pardoe took the bronze medal in the 10km open water event to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
