Rebecca Gallantree misses out in Russia

Rebecca Gallantree puts in a solid performance but fails to earn a podium place in the women's 3m springboard at the Russian meet of the World Diving Series.

Rebecca Gallantree has placed fifth for Great Britain in the final of the women's 3m springboard at the World Diving Series in Kazan, Russia.

The 30-year-old was consistent across her five dives, all scoring 60-plus, but her total of 312.45 left her more than 20 points off a podium spot.

The gold medal went to Shi Tingmao of China - her third victory in the three meetings of the series so far - with a final total of 384.60. A slip-up with her forward 3-1/2 could have allowed Canada's Jennifer Abel a route in, but a strong score of 81.00 for her forward 2-1/2 somersault with 1 twist ensured the victory.

Abel settled for silver with a final score of 363.00, improving on the bronze she picked up in Dubai last month.

The final podium spot went to Shi's teammate Wang Han, who secured a medal with a total of 335.30, despite a score of just 43.50 for her final dive.
