GB News has reportedly made an offer to Irish presenter Ryan Tubridy to work for the channel.

The 50-year-old was one of the top stars working for Irish public broadcaster RTE, hosting flagship talkshow The Late Late Show and his own radio show, but left the network earlier this month in a controversy over his pay.

Earlier this summer it emerged that RTE had been paying Tubridy more than had been publicly declared, with some of his wages being given to him via a third-party account, and the ensuing scandal made it all the way to the Oireachtas, the Irish parliament.

According to The Irish Sun, GB News got in touch with Tubridy a day after his contract with RTE was terminated and negotiations are now continuing over him taking up a potential presenting role.

The channel's editorial director Michael Booker told the newspaper: "Ryan Tubridy is a fantastic broadcaster - a people's presenter with great wit and empathy.

"We keep a keen eye on broadcasters across the UK and Ireland."

A source added: "Ryan has bills to pay. He has to work like everybody else. The main thing for Ryan now will be getting back on air.

"There's little sign of interest from any TV or radio stations in Ireland, so it looks like his future will be in the UK. Given how much controversy surrounds him in Ireland, he might enjoy the anonymity of working in London and getting back in front of a camera."
