Antony Cotton signs a new one-year deal to stay as Sean Tully on Coronation Street into 2022.

Antony Cotton has revealed that he has signed a new one-year deal to stay on Coronation Street.

The move comes despite a lack of significant stories for his character Sean Tully in more than three years, when he became homeless for a few weeks after a downturn in fortunes.

Speaking to the Daily Star, the 46-year-old actor - on the soap since 2003 - promised that Sean would have a "very big, dramatic" story in the near future.

"I have just signed a new contract. I've always said that if they're happy for me to be there, then I'm happy to be there. If it ain't broke, don't fix it," he said.

"I feel that even more nowadays because some work is thin on the ground. I am very lucky to be in a job."

Cotton continued: "I have a very big, dramatic storyline that I am hoping we can now pick up and do properly.

"We are getting back into the swing of things now, so I am looking forward to the next year.

"I am hoping 12 months from now things will be completely back to normal."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
