Doctors star Bharti Patel joins EastEnders in guest role

Doctors star Bharti Patel joins EastEnders for a guest role, playing a new friend for Harvey.

Doctors star Bharti Patel has joined the cast of EastEnders for a short stint in a guest role.

The actress is best known for playing Ruhma Carter on the daytime medical drama, which is due to end this December after almost 25 years on air.

In EastEnders she will play Maya Houssain, who arrives in Walford and soon strikes up an unlikely friendship with cabbie Harvey (Ross Boatman).

The pair soon bond over their mutual love of football, and Harvey is delighted to make another friend with similar interests after the recent departures of Rocky (Brian Conley) and Mitch (Roger Griffiths).

Patel will make her debut in the episode airing next Wednesday, May 29.
