Swedish viewers vote Iceland as Eurovision 2020 winners

Swedish viewers vote for Iceland's entry to win Eurovision 2020 in an unofficial version of the event.

Swedish viewers have voted for Iceland's entry to win this year's Eurovision Song Contest in an unofficial version of the event.

This year's contest was due to take place in Rotterdam tomorrow night but was axed due to coronavirus, which has effectively shut down all live events across the continent.

Swedish broadcaster SVT ran its own version of the contest on Thursday night, showing viewers the performances that would have gone ahead and then inviting them to vote for their favourites.

After those votes were combined with jury voting, Dadi Freyr of Iceland with his track 'Think About Things' - also the bookies' favourite - was awarded a maximum 12 points from both the public and the jury.

The UK, represented by James Newman and 'My Last Breath', had a strong showing, finishing in sixth place having amassed a combined total of eight points.
