Matt Lucas reveals that the new series of The Great British Bake Off will be filmed "very soon".

Matt Lucas has revealed that the new series of The Great British Bake Off will be filmed in the coming months.

The Channel 4 show was thrown into chaos last year as the coronavirus pandemic scuppered the usual production process, which sees the series recorded every weekend over a couple of months.

Eventually filming was able to go ahead after the crew, hosts, judges and contestants formed a giant coronavirus-safe production bubble at a country house hotel in Essex.

Although social distancing measures are now starting to loosen in the UK, co-host Lucas has confirmed that the same precautions will be used to film this year's series.

"We're starting very soon. And like last year we're going into a bubble. All self-isolating and getting tested," he told Lorraine.

"And then we're going into a COVID-free bubble, so we can all taste each other's bakes and there can be handshakes and all sorts."

Of the new contestants, he added: "I've seen the video clips of all the new bakers and there's some brilliant ones in there."

The new series is expected to air from late August on Channel 4.
