Anthony Mackie will headline a fourth Captain America movie, it is announced.

Anthony Mackie has signed up to headline a fourth Captain America movie, it has been revealed.

At the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans's Steve Rogers handed over the superhero mantle to Mackie's Sam Wilson - a transition that then played out over the course of the miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The head writer of that show, Malcolm Spellman, has signed up to pen Cap's next big-screen solo outing, while there has not yet been confirmation of whether Sebastian Stan is on board to reprise his role as the Winter Soldier.

A director has also yet to be confirmed, although Anthony and Joe Russo directed the previous two movies, as well as Endgame, and are the most likely to helm the project.

The release date for Captain America 4 is unknown, although Marvel does have three as-yet unfilled release dates earmarked for 2023.
