Aaron Taylor-Johnson is cast as the lead in the upcoming superhero movie Kraven The Hunter.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has landed the role of the titular character in the upcoming superhero movie Kraven The Hunter.

The film is part of the burgeoning Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC) franchise that is centred around characters from the Spider-Man comics.

The first movie in the SPUMC was Tom Hardy's Venom in 2018, to be followed this year by sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage and next year by Morbius, starring Jared Leto and Matt Smith.

Kraven - due in 2023 - will be the fourth film and follows an arch enemy of Spider-Man, Kraven, a skilled game hunter who ingests a serum that increases his strength and slows down the ageing process.

The plot of the movie is said to be based on the acclaimed comic story Kraven's Last Hunt, which saw Kraven kill Spider-Man before taking his costume and impersonating him.

The SPUMC is set within the same world as the MCU, opening the possibility to Tom Holland's Spider-Man appearing in films such as Kraven, although as of yet there are no known plans for that to happen.

Taylor-Johnson, 30, is already a known face in the MCU, having previously played Quicksilver/Pietro Maximoff in two Phase Two movies.

The actor's other extensive credits include the Kick-Ass films, Nowhere Boy, Tenet and Nocturnal Animals.
