Derek McInnes agrees Aberdeen extension

Derek McInnes signs a contract extension at Aberdeen until 2019.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has agreed a contract extension until the end of the 2018-19 season.

McInnes led the Dons to their first silverware in 19 years when they won the Scottish League Cup in 2013, and directed the club to a second-place Scottish Premiership finish last season.

"I've said all along that I don't want our tenure with Aberdeen to be remembered for having lifted one trophy and that we are looking to have the type of scenes witnessed last March replicated on a regular basis," McInnes told The Scotsman.

"Tony [Docherty] and I are totally committed to bringing as much success as we possibly can to this club and, while we've already achieved some progress, we still have a long way to go."

The 43-year-old, who was recently linked with a move to Rangers, had two years left on his contract when he signed the extension.
