Preview: AC Milan vs. Empoli

Sports Mole previews the match at San Siro between AC Milan and Empoli.

AC Milan host Empoli on Sunday knowing that three points are imperative to avoid falling further down the Serie A table.

Although there was no disgrace in losing 3-1 to leaders Juventus last weekend, the defeat was Milan's fourth in six games which leaves them in 11th place in the standings.

There is no imminent danger of the Rossoneri being drawn into a relegation battle, but with European qualification deemed essential, coach Filippo Inzaghi will be aware that he can't afford any further setbacks.

Defender Philippe Mexes remains absent through suspension but Giampaolo Pazzini could start, while Suso may make his league debut after joining from Liverpool.

Empoli travel to San Siro having recorded their first win in 10 games last weekend against Cesena.

Goals from Massimo Maccarone and Franco Signorelli gave their side a 2-0 triumph at Stadio Carlo Castellani to move them into 15th position in the table.

Manager Maurizio Sarri could name the same starting lineup as he looks to ensure that his side maintain a four-point margin between themselves and the bottom three.

AC Milan:

Form in Serie A: LDLLWL
Form in all competitions: WLLLWL

Possible starting lineup: Diego Lopez, Zaccardo, Alex, Paletta, Antonelli, Essien, Muntari, Pazzini, Poli, Cerci, Honda

Empoli:

Form in Serie A: DLDLDW
Form in all competitions: LDLLDW

Possible starting lineup: Sepe, Mario Rui, Tonelli, Hysaj, Rugani, Valdifiori, Verdi, Signorelli, Zielinski, Maccarone, Pucciarelli

Sports Mole says: 2-1
