Luca Antonelli scored the only goal of the match as AC Milan recorded a 1-0 victory over Torino in Serie A on Saturday night.
The strike, which came just before the interval, was enough to move sixth-placed Milan onto 47 points in the table and now just one point and one spot behind rivals Inter Milan.
It was the home side that dominated possession in the early stages and a stinging free kick from Keisuke Honda, which smashed the crossbar in the 27th minute, was the closest that either side came to making the breakthrough.
Torino's best chance of the first period arrived just before the 30-minute mark when Ciro Immobile drove into the box, but his low strike just missed the post.
Milan, who are now unbeaten in 11 matches in all competitions, opened the scoring in the 45th minute, however, when Antonelli bundled home from close range after Torino failed to clear a corner.
Chances were few and far between in the second half - the best falling for Milan defender Ignazio Abate, but his powerful strike flew wide in the 64th minute.
The defeat for Torino is their 11th in the league this season, which has left them in 11th position in the table.
