Ian Wright: 'Arsenal may be better off out of the Champions League'

Ian Wright believes that Arsenal's chances of winning the Premier League could improve if they were eliminated from the Champions League.

Ian Wright has claimed that being eliminated from the Champions League could help Arsenal's chances of winning the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger's men have had a torrid start to their European campaign this season, losing back-to-back matches to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos, putting their future in the competition in jeopardy.

However, Wright believes that the Gunners may be better off out of Europe to focus their attention on securing their first top-flight crown in 12 years.

"We all saw with Liverpool a couple of seasons ago how not being in Europe at all can really boost your chances," the Arsenal legend wrote in The Sun.

"Playing a day later than most of your rivals means you're playing catch-up all the time — and then there is all the travel and demands of the European games themselves.

"If winning the Premier League comes at the expense of no European football at all, I'll take it every day of the week."

Arsenal face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday.
