Arsenal ended their nine-year wait for a trophy on Saturday with a 3-2 win after extra time against Hull City in the FA Cup final.

Hull made a flying start to the match as goals from James Chester and Curtis Davies put them 2-0 up with just eight minutes on the clock.

However, Santi Cazorla reduced the deficit with a superb free kick on 17 minutes before Laurent Koscielny drew them level with 20 minutes of normal time left to play.

Aaron Ramsey then fired home in the 108th minute to land the Gunners a major trophy for the first time in nearly a decade.

Was the result fair?

Despite Hull's blistering start to the match, it was Arsenal who ultimately wanted it more. They grew in confidence in the second half, and Koscielny's equaliser gave them the momentum to go on and win the trophy. They were all over their opponents during extra time before Ramsey settled the tie with a fine goal.

Arsenal's performance

The Gunners were poor during the first half as they failed to cope with Hull's energy and enthusiasm. It was only when Cazorla got them back in the match with a stunning free kick that they started to show signs of life. They were much better in the second half, playing a direct style of football that had their opponents on the back foot until Koscielny got them level. From there on it looked as if only one team would be lifting the trophy. They had to work for it in extra time, but their hunger and sheer force off will eventually got them over the line.

Hull's performance

Steve Bruce's side could not believe their luck when they got themselves into a two-goal deal with only eight minutes on the clock. However, the Tigers were by far the better team in the first half thanks to a display that was full of grit, determination and fearlessness. A fatal error on their part was to invite Arsenal onto them in the second half. The Gunners seized the opportunity by pushing Hull further and further back before squaring the match. Hull then waned during extra time as heavy legs began to take their toll. Players and fans alike will look upon this day as a disappointing one, but they should be proud of the part that they played in what was an entertaining final.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Yaya Sanogo: He only came on after an hour, but Sanogo made a massive difference for Arsenal. The young striker proved to be a real handful in and around the Hull penalty area thanks to a combination of raw physicality and neat skill. He linked well with Olivier Giroud and contributed significantly to his team's success.

Biggest gaffe

Kieran Gibbs had a glorious chance to give Arsenal the lead on 78 minutes when he had a clear shot at goal from six yards out following Sanogo's cross. However, the full-back somehow blazed his effort high over the crossbar. An ugly miss.

Referee performance

This was not one of Lee Probert's finest displays. The official turned down two clear Arsenal penalties as Cazorla was brought down by Davies and then David Meyler. There were also big question marks over Hull's second goal and Arsenal's equaliser, though these were honest mistakes. That said, the man in the middle did little to hinder the flow of the game.

What next?

Arsenal: The Gunners are sure to be celebrating their victory with large quantities of beer and champagne before embarking on a victory parade on Sunday.

Hull: The Tigers will be jetting off to various destinations around the globe (most likely Dubai) in a bid to forget their sorrows.
