Half-Time Report: Lukas Podolski levels for Arsenal

Lukas Podolski scores a first-half equaliser for Arsenal, ensuring that the Gunners are level with West Ham United at half time.

Lukas Podolski cancelled out a Matt Jarvis goal to send Arsenal into half time level in their Premier League match against West Ham United this evening.

The home side had the majority of the possession in the opening minutes of the match, allowing Tomas Rosicky to try to volley the ball in, but his effort was comfortably saved.

The visitors survived the strong early spell before applying some pressure themselves, but Per Mertesacker made a block to deny Mohamed Diame.

A strong run from Podolski almost allowed Olivier Giroud a simple tap-in for the opening goal, but the Frenchman could not reach the ball in time.

Diame had another chance for the Hammers after collecting the ball from Andy Carroll following a corner, but could only send his finish wide.

However, Jarvis managed to give West Ham the lead shortly before the half-time whistle, heading in from close range after Wojciech Szczesny denied Antonio Nocerino.

Arsenal responded well though, and were able to get back on level terms just before the break with Santi Cazorla setting up Podolski to drill the ball past Adrian.
