Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher dismisses claims by Arsene Wenger that Manchester City's second goal in the EFL Cup final should have been disallowed.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has said that the referee was correct in allowing Manchester City's second goal to stand in the EFL Cup final with Arsenal.

Early in the second half, Vincent Kompany diverted the ball into the net from an onside position, although Gunners boss Arsene Wenger claimed that Leroy Sane - who was standing in the six-yard box - was interfering with play.

However, Gallagher has suggested that Sane's position in the area did not hinder Ospina's attempt to prevent the ball from hitting the back of the net.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "It's a goal because the ball has deflected off Kompany. Ospina is diving towards his right and Kompany diverts it to the left.

"Sane is nowhere near him. Sane has no impact on the shot. He clearly doesn't interfere with Ospina's dive because he can't get back to his left anyhow."

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has backed up his manager by claiming that Kompany's effort should have been disallowed.
