Former player Julio Baptista backs Mikel Arteta to deliver success at Arsenal, providing that the club's board have patience when it comes to their progression.

Manager Mikel Arteta has been backed to deliver long-term success at Arsenal by former player Julio Baptista.

Before football was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, Arteta had recorded eight wins and five draws from his first 15 games in charge of the Gunners.

While the North London outfit face a battle to qualify for Europe next season, Baptista feels that the club are in a good place under the Spaniard.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Spaniard said: "Arteta is a young coach who has a chance to be successful and needs the club: he must feel confident.

"It is a long-term project, and if he is given time then he will deliver results, but he must be shown patience."

Baptista spent the 2006-07 campaign at Arsenal, scoring three goals from 24 outings in the Premier League.
