Chris Sutton: 'Arsenal worse than under Unai Emery'

Former Premier League forward Chris Sutton says that Arsenal are worse under Freddie Ljungberg than they were under Unai Emery.

Former Premier League forward Chris Sutton has claimed that Arsenal are currently 'worse than they were under Unai Emery'.

Freddie Ljungberg picked up his first victory as interim boss away to West Ham United on Monday, but the Gunners were brought crashing back down to earth on Sunday afternoon by Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola's side scored three times in the first half to run out 3-0 winners at the Emirates Stadium, and Sutton has called on Arsenal to "put Ljungberg out of his misery".

"Manchester City strolled through the game and it was far too easy. There has to be questions asked about Freddie Ljungberg now," Sutton told BBC Sport.

"They are worse than under Emery and they are going backwards. They need to make some decisions quickly and put Ljungberg out of his misery. He looks like a rabbit in the headlights.

"Get someone in who has some clout. The decision makers will have watched the game and seen the difference in class. We know Manchester City are good but Arsenal should not have been that bad."

Ljungberg is currently working on a "game-to-game basis" at the club while the search for a new manager continues.

Next up for Arsenal is a trip to a revitalised Everton next weekend, before ending 2019 with league fixtures fixtures against Bournemouth and Chelsea.
