Former Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu to host charity legends game

Former Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu announces that he will host a charity legends game at Barnet's Hive Stadium on September 30.

Former Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu has announced that he will host a charity legends game at Barnet's Hive Stadium on September 30.

Kanu enjoyed a glittering playing career, winning the Champions League being won at Ajax and two Premier League titles during his days with the Gunners.

The Nigeria international retired from the sport in 2012, but the 42-year-old's focus is now on attempting to raise money for the Kanu Heart Foundation, with the ex-striker having previously undergone major surgery in 1996.

A Premier League Masters side is scheduled to take on the African All Stars, with Lauren, Sol Campbell and Robert Pires among those to have committed to the occasion.

Kanu said: "Since retiring from football, the Kanu Heart Foundation has been my biggest passion. It is amazing to be in a position to have helped over 500 children within and outside Nigeria gain access to vital heart operations, having suffered from heart conditions myself – but I want to do more.

"The Petrolex Kanu Cup in association with Masters FootballTM is an opportunity to bring people together to see some amazing players – and my great friends – play the beautiful game once more, whilst also raising money for a good cause. I cannot wait to share the full teams and for the game to kick off."

Tickets for the match can be purchased at Barnet's official website.
