Manchester City travel to Newcastle on Sunday knowing that they only need one goal to equal Arsenal's record of scoring in the most consecutive games against a specific opponent.

Manchester City could equal a Premier League goalscoring record currently held by Arsenal when they face Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola's men head into the contest top of the table and on a run of seven straight league wins, making them firm favourites against a Newcastle side sitting joint-bottom.

The match also pits the league's second-best attack against its worst defence, with Man City coming into the game off the back of a statement-making 7-0 win over Leeds United in midweek.

A goal for the visitors looks highly likely, then, and should they find the back of the net then it would be the 26th successive Premier League fixture against Newcastle in which they have scored.

Arsenal are the only team to have scored in 26 consecutive games against a specific opponent in the Premier League before, doing so against West Bromwich Albion.

The last time Newcastle kept a clean sheet against Man City was in November 2006, when the two sides played out a goalless draw.

Victory for the champions would also see them break an even more impressive record, becoming the first team in English football history to win 34 top-flight games within a single calendar year.
