Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists that the club's doors are "always open" for Jack Wilshere to train with his former team.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that the door is "always open" for Jack Wilshere to train with the club.

The former Hale End academy product has been without a club since leaving Bournemouth at the end of last season and recently gave a hard-hitting interview detailing his struggles.

Wilshere has been training with Serie B side Como this summer but will not be making a permanent switch to Italy, and Arteta would be happy to welcome his former teammate back to London Colney in order to keep fit.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference ahead of Saturday's clash with Norwich City, Arteta said: "Jack's a great guy and someone I used to share a dressing room with. He's loved here. Our doors are always open."

Wilshere famously scored an impressive team goal for Arsenal against Norwich in the 2013-14 season and left the club in 2018 after scoring 14 goals and setting up 30 more in 198 appearances, winning two FA Cups in that time.

Arteta also spoke about another English midfielder in Emile Smith Rowe during his pre-match press conference, but he was unable to deliver a positive update on the 21-year-old after he contracted an illness during the international break.
