Harry Redknapp: 'Arsenal nowhere near Tottenham Hotspur's level'

Harry Redknapp says that Arsenal are not "anywhere near" Tottenham Hotspur's level, despite finishing above them this season.

Harry Redknapp has claimed that Arsenal need to spend big on players in the summer if they want to "get anywhere near" Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsene Wenger's side managed to finish above their North London rivals on the final day of the Premier League season with a 4-0 win over a relegated Aston Villa on Sunday.

Tottenham were on course to finish above the Gunners for the first time in 21 years, but they dropped to third in the table following a 5-1 defeat to Newcastle United.

Redknapp believes that despite Tottenham's final-day disappointment, they are currently head and shoulders above Arsenal.

"Arsene Wenger deserves enormous credit for finishing above Tottenham Hotspur in the league, but I know which squad I would rather have," Redknapp wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

"Being brutally honest, Arsenal are very lucky to have finished the season second and Arsene needs to buy some players over the summer to get anywhere near Spurs.

"He has been criticised by supporters and pundits for much of the season, but to finish second should end the debate over his future."

Redknapp spent four years as Tottenham manager from 2008 to 2012.
