Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp backs Emmanuel Adebayor to ignore the fans ahead of his return to the Emirates Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has backed Emmanuel Adebayor ahead of the striker's return to the Emirates Stadium for the North London derby between Spurs and Arsenal.

Adebayor, who played for the Gunners between 2006 and 2009, was subject to abusive chants last time the two teams met, but Redknapp is confident that the Togolese striker won't be affected by such factors when the two sides meet on Sunday.

"I'm sure he will enjoy going back there. He played well against them at home this year so I don't think it will be a problem," said Redknapp.

"I suppose he will get some stick. That goes with the territory when you go back to your old clubs, but I'm sure he can handle it. Hopefully he will keep his cool and that's what he needs to do.

"I don't know why people have to shout abuse and filth at people. I don't understand it. We didn't do it when I was a kid going to watch football. I hope they can go and enjoy the game on Sunday, get behind their team and get on with the game. Don't go there to abuse other people. That doesn't make sense."

Spurs currently sit in third place in the Premier League table, ten points ahead of their North London rivals.
