Arsene Wenger delighted with win against Sunderland

Arsene Wenger says that Arsenal's win against Sunderland is a crucial result for his side.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised his team for their performance in the 4-1 win against Sunderland in the Premier League today.

The Gunners moved to within one point of league leaders Chelsea, and Wenger insists that it was the perfect response to their Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

"After playing for so long with 10 men in a difficult game in midweek against Bayern Munich it was good to win today. The three points are welcome," the Frenchman told BBC Sport.

"We are still there in the table. It is down to consistency and our performances. It was important to win the game. We lost to Liverpool and drew with Manchester United. We needed to win this game."

Arsenal play Stoke City away next weekend.
