Arsene Wenger: 'Lack of experience cost Arsenal against Liverpool'

Arsene Wenger admits that his Arsenal team lacked experience after suffering a 4-3 defeat at home to Liverpool.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that his side's lack of experience cost them a result against Liverpool.

The Gunners had led through Theo Walcott's first-half strike, but goals from Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and a brace from Philippe Coutinho saw the Reds edge to a 4-3 win in their opening Premier League game.

However, Wenger insists that he will only delve into the transfer market if he can secure a player of quality for his team.

He told Sky Sports News: "We played a very good first half and were unlucky to concede a goal just before half time because the free kick was very harsh.

"After that we paid for a lack of experience. I have said many times we are working very hard to get one or two players in. I don't know what you call desperate. [Any signings Arsenal make before the transfer window closes] need to make sense and be of quality."

Arsenal travel to face champions Leicester City next weekend.
