Arsene Wenger: Jack Wilshere is on road to recovery

Arsene Wenger says Jack Wilshere had an "exceptionally good" scan on his ankle injury.

Arsene Wenger has said that Jack Wilshere has had an "exceptionally good" scan as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.

The 19-year-old suffered the injury in the Gunners' pre-season friendly against New York Bulls on July 31.

The England midfielder had successful surgery in September and was expected to be out for four to five months.

"Jack had a very important scan on Thursday. It was exceptionally good and the news is positive. He could be back in mid-February," said Wenger.

Wilshere later confirmed Wenger's comments.

"I can confirm what the boss said that I had an exceptionally good scan on Tuesday and I can now step up my rehab and start jogging!" he said through his official Twitter account.

Wilshere has made 49 appearances for Arsenal, scoring two goals.
