Arsenal edge out Liverpool

Goals from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey help Arsenal beat Liverpool and go five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Arsenal have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win against Liverpool.

There was an early chance for the Gunners, as Tomas Rosicky fired his shot in from a tight angle, but Simon Mignolet was able to get down low to make the save.

Liverpool came close to grabbing the opening goal as Jordan Henderson was allowed to run into the Arsenal penalty box, although he then failed to connect with his shot.

The Gunners opened the scoring with 18 minutes gone through Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard headed a cross against the post but raced on to the rebound to slam home.

Mignolet was called into action again, pushing away Aaron Ramsey's shot from the edge of the box.

Daniel Sturridge showed good skill to evade the Arsenal defence, but eventually ran the ball out of play. Cazorla then fired wide of the post towards the end of the first half.

Olivier Giroud then had two opportunities to double Arsenal's lead. First he clipped the ball wide of the post, and then failed to test Mignolet from a good position.

However, Ramsey was far more clinical. The midfielder received the ball on the edge of the box and hit a half volley past Mignolet.

After that goal, the Gunners took control and Liverpool struggled to create a chance.

However, Luis Suarez was inches away from bringing his team to within one goal of their opponents when he swerved a shot against the post.

Sturridge then got a shot away from a tight angle which Wojciech Sczcesny had to tip away.

Suarez had another chance late on, but placed his shot wide with Sturridge waiting in the middle for a pass.
