Arsenal reportedly identify former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez as their top choice to replace Mikel Arteta if they sack their current boss.

Arsenal have reportedly identified Rafael Benitez as one of their top targets to replace manager Mikel Arteta if the Spaniard is sacked in the coming weeks.

The Gunners have endured a torrid 2020-21 campaign so far, sitting 14th in the Premier League table having lost eight of their opening 15 top-flight outings.

Saturday's 3-1 victory over London rivals Chelsea helped to ease the pressure on Arteta's shoulders, but speculation over his future has grown in recent weeks with that win being their first in the league since November 1.

Thomas Tuchel and Massimiliano Allegri have been mentioned as possible replacements for Arteta should Arsenal look to make a change, but The Mirror claims that Benitez is now their top target.

The former Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United boss is currently in charge at Chinese Super League side Dalian Pro, but is thought to be open to a return to the Premier League.

Benitez, who has also taken charge of Valencia, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Napoli during his managerial career, most recently managed in England with Newcastle between 2016 and 2019.
