Brentford have reportedly had a £16.7m bid for Danish star Mikkel Damsgaard accepted by Serie A outfit Sampdoria.
The 22-year-old versatile midfielder was a standout performer for Euro 2020 semi-finalists Denmark last summer, scoring two goals including a memorable strike against England at Wembley Stadium.
However, Damsgaard endured a frustrating 2021-22 campaign with injury and was reduced to just 12 appearances across all competitions.
A lack of minutes last season has not put Brentford off pursuing the Dane, however, as Thomas Frank has identified his compatriot as an ideal replacement for Christian Eriksen, who has moved to Manchester United.
Sky Sports News claims that Sampdoria have accepted a £16.7m from the Bees for Damsgaard, and the player is now discussing personal terms before undergoing a medical in the coming days.
Damsgaard could become the fifth signing made by Brentford this summer after the arrivals of Keane Lewis-Potter, Aaron Hickey, Thomas Strakosha and Ben Mee.

Staying in the Premier League, Leicester City are reportedly interested in Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
The 33-year-old made 26 top-flight appearances for the Magpies last season, but he is expected to lose his place as the number one at St James' Park following the arrival of Nick Pope from Burnley.
Leicester, meanwhile, are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper with veteran Kasper Schmeichel closing in on a permanent switch to Ligue 1 side Nice.
Newcastle are currently in talks with the Foxes over a separate deal involving James Maddison, who is valued at around £60m.
According to journalist Craig Hope, the Foxes have shown an interest in Dubravka, although the Slovakian is yet to have been included in a potential player-plus-cash deal for Maddison.
Newcastle have seen two bids for Maddison rejected by Leicester, the latest believed to be valued at close to £50m.

Elsewhere, Arsenal starlet Charlie Patino is reportedly set to join Championship club Blackpool on a season-long loan deal.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the Gunners' most exciting prospects and is rated highly by senior head coach Mikel Arteta.
Patino scored on his professional debut in December last year as Arsenal beat Sunderland 5-1 in the EFL Cup quarter-finals, before starting his first senior game a month later in the 1-0 FA Cup third-round defeat to Nottingham Forest.
To help Patino continue his development and gain regular first-team football, journalist Jeorge Bird claims that the Gunners have agreed to send the midfielder out on loan to Blackpool for the 2022-23 campaign.
Arsenal have already allowed a number of their younger players to head out on loan, including Harry Clarke to Stoke City, Auston Trusty to Birmingham City and Tyreece John-Jules to Ipswich Town.

Another promising talent who is set for a loan move to the Championship is Manchester City's James McAtee, who is reportedly close to joining Sheffield United on a temporary deal.
The 19-year-old was named the Premier League 2 Player of the Season for 2021-22 after helping City's Under-23s win the title by recording 18 goals and seven assists in 23 appearances.
McAtee has featured six times for Pep Guardiola's senior side and was with the first-team squad on their pre-season tour of the USA earlier this summer.
However, the attacking midfielder is now set for the first loan move of his career, with journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming that Sheffield United have agreed to take him on loan for the new campaign.
The Blades have already recruited Citizens midfielder Tommy Doyle on loan this summer, while Ciaran Clark and Reda Khadra have also joined on temporary deals from Newcastle and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively.
