Arsenal want to sign Real Valladolid defender Fernando Calero in the January transfer window, according to a report.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Real Valladolid defender Fernando Calero in the January transfer window.

Calero, 23, has played every minute of Valladolid's 2018-19 La Liga campaign to date.

Valladolid boast the second-best defensive record in Spain's top flight at this stage of the season, and it is understood that a number of clubs have been watching Calero in action.

According to Cadena Ser, Arsenal are interested in signing the Spaniard, who has a £10m release clause in his current deal.

The Gunners are currently light when it comes to depth in central defence, with Rob Holding due to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury, and Konstantinos Mavropanos and Laurent Koscielny yet to represent the first team this term.

Calero joined Malaga from Valladolid in 2016, and this is his first season in La Liga.
