Arsenal must fend off interest from Spain and Germany if they are to sign Mathew Ryan from Brighton & Hove Albion permanently, according to a report.

Arsenal reportedly have a fight on their hands to sign Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Mathew Ryan on a permanent deal.

After losing his place as Graham Potter's number one to Robert Sanchez during the first half of the 2020-21 season, Ryan penned a six-month loan deal with Arsenal, but struggled for game time.

The Australia international left the Emirates Stadium with three Premier League appearances under his belt in an Arsenal shirt, keeping one clean sheet in a 2-0 success over Newcastle United.

Ryan has opened the door to a longer stay at Arsenal, but Sky Sports News claims that unnamed clubs in Spain and France are also eyeing a swoop.

The 29-year-old previously plied his trade in La Liga with Valencia between 2015 and 2017, and he now has just 12 months left to run on his Brighton contract.

Ryan has kept 27 clean sheets in 123 appearances for the Seagulls across all competitions, and he recorded another shut-out in a 3-0 win for Australia over Kuwait during World Cup qualifying earlier this month.
