Arsenal reportedly make a decision on whether to pursue a permanent deal for on-loan Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto.

Arsenal have reportedly decided that they will not pursue a permanent transfer for Bournemouth loanee Neto.

The Gunners recruited the former Barcelona goalkeeper in the closing stages of the summer transfer window after they allowed Aaron Ramsdale to join Southampton on a permanent deal.

Neto has rarely been used by Mikel Arteta this season, with his playing time partly affected by the fact that he was cup-tied for Arsenal's EFL Cup campaign.

With David Raya regarded as Arsenal's undisputed number one, Neto has had to settle for just four competitive appearances this season.

The backup goalkeeper made his most recent appearance in last month's Champions League clash against La Liga side Girona.

Unfortunately for Neto, he was at fault for Arnaut Danjuma's opener after being caught off his line at Montilivi, before his teammates managed to turn the game around to clinch a 2-1 victory.

Neto is unlikely to have many playing opportunities between now and the end of the season unless Raya picks up an injury.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal have already decided that they will not pursue a permanent deal for Neto in the summer transfer window.

The loan agreement did not include a buy option or an obligation to buy, and Arsenal are not willing to make an attempt to extend his stay beyond the end of the season.

Who could replace Neto?

With Neto set to return to Bournemouth in the summer, Arsenal will need to recruit a new backup goalkeeper who could potentially provide competition for Raya.

The Gunners already appear to have a candidate in mind, with a recent report suggesting they are looking to sign Joan Garcia from Espanyol.

Arsenal are set to renew their interest in the Spanish shot-stopper after failing to secure his signature in last summer's transfer window.

Garcia is said to have a €30m (£25m) release clause in his Espanyol contract, but it remains to be seen whether Arsenal are willing to pay that amount or look to negotiate a lower transfer fee.
