Barcelona are reportedly unable to announce the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang until the striker officially terminates his Arsenal contract.

Barcelona will not announce the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Arsenal tonight, according to a report.

The Gabon international is now understood to have completed his move to Catalonia on a free transfer following a whirlwind transfer saga on deadline day.

Aubameyang's proposed loan move to Barca supposedly collapsed due to club disagreements over wage payments, but Arsenal are now believed to have let the 32-year-old leave for free in order to slash his £350k-a-week wages from their books.

However, Sport reports that Barcelona will not officially announce Aubameyang's signing tonight, with the striker still needing to terminate his contract in North London.

The report adds that Aubameyang will therefore arrive as a free agent, giving Barcelona the freedom of being able to register him after the 11pm January deadline.

Aubameyang leaves Arsenal having scored 92 goals and set up 21 more in 163 appearances for the Gunners, but he was exiled from the squad in December after being stripped of the captaincy.
