Manchester City are reportedly planning to table a £40m bid for Arsenal star Jack Wilshere if they fail to secure the services of Paul Pogba from Juventus.
Sky Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini is willing to hand over a British record fee of £70m for the France international, but has Wilshere earmarked as a potential alternative, according to the Daily Star.
Pogba has also been linked with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, while Juve have expressed their desire to keep him.
Wilshere is under contract at Arsenal until 2018, but City are said to be prepared to double his wages to £150,000 per week in an attempt to lure him to Manchester.
City's interest in Wilshere is not expected to prevent them from launching an improved offer for Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling, whom the Reds value at £50m.
