Sylvain Distin believes that Phil Jagielka will remain at Everton after Arsenal had a £12m bid for the defender turned down.

Everton's Sylvain Distin believes that fellow defender Phil Jagielka will stay at Goodison Park this summer.

Jagielka has been linked with a potential move to Arsenal and the Gunners are understood to have had a £12m bid for the 28-year-old turned down recently.

However, Distin thinks that he will still be playing alongside Jagielka during the new season because the England international signed a new deal a few months ago.

"He's not come out and said he wants to go anywhere, so I guess that means Jags wants to stay," said Distin.

"It's still a club to be at. I don't think any players want to leave here, to be honest. My guess is he's fine here."

Jagielka joined Everton from Sheffield United in 2007 and has since gone on to earn eight caps for England.
