Former Arsenal striker John Hartson believes that the Gunners will be able to move on if Robin van Persie decides to call time on his career at the Emirates.

Former Arsenal and Celtic striker John Hartson believes that Arsenal will survive if Robin van Persie decides to leave the club.

Reports have suggested that the Dutchman is considering a departure from the Emirates after stalling on contract discussions in order to keep his options open.

"They've brought in [Lukas] Podolski and [Van Persie] might be looking at what the club does [in the transfer market] before he commits his future," Hartson told talkSPORT.

"He'll be a massive loss but they recovered when Henry left, they recovered when Wright left. Arsenal are not a one man club and if he doesn't want to stay, they may be better off cashing in. People think it will be the end of their world, but it's not. Clubs recover."

It is believed that Manchester City is a possible destination for the prolific striker if the 28-year-old decides to close the door on his Arsenal career.
