Former Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny reveals that he was no longer happy at the club ahead of joining Bordeaux over the summer.

Former Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny has revealed that he was no longer happy at the club ahead of joining Bordeaux over the summer.

The Frenchman, who spent nine years at the Emirates, refused to travel on the club's pre-season tour after Arsenal would not agree to terminate his contract.

Eventually, however, Koscielny completed a move to the Ligue 1 side for a fee of £5m.

Reflecting on why he left Arsenal, Koscielny told Canal+: "To keep it simple, I was not as happy as I was on the first day I signed. With my family, we decided we needed to return home and have a new challenge."

The 34-year-old irked supporters with his push for a move over the summer, along with an announcement video that saw him ripping off his Arsenal kit to reveal a Bordeaux strip.

Recent reports claim that Koscielny contacted Unai Emery to express his support after the manager was sacked last month.
