Liverpool have reportedly drawn up a shortlist of five midfield targets after pulling out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham this summer.
Jurgen Klopp's men are enduring a difficult season in the Premier League, currently sitting 12 points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United - albeit the Reds have played a game fewer.
With midfield options such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita set to leave Anfield at the expiration of their contracts this summer, the Merseyside club are looking to be active in the transfer market.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have identified five targets who could help improve the team's engine room: Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher, Alexis Mac Allister, Joao Palhinha and Nicolo Barella.
Moises Caicedo is also believed to be on the radar of Klopp's side, but Liverpool face heavy competition from Chelsea and Arsenal to secure the Brighton & Hove Albion player's signature.
Chelsea duo Mount and Gallagher could make the switch to Anfield this summer, whilst Liverpool view Fulham's Palhinha as a more defensive option that could improve the team's defensive record.
