Liverpool are reportedly keen to secure a deal for Ajax defender Devyne Rensch during one of the upcoming transfer windows.

Liverpool are reportedly considering making an approach for Ajax defender Devyne Rensch.

Throughout the summer transfer window, it was widely speculated that Jurgen Klopp was keen to add a new defender to his first-team squad.

However, the German failed to bring in a fresh face for that area of the pitch, instead choosing to rely on the versatility of Joe Gomez and eventually promote Jarell Quansah to the senior ranks.

As it stands, such a method has paid off, with the introduction of Quansah in particular bringing a fresh look to central defence on occasions and providing more backup.

Nevertheless, with the long-term future of Gomez and Joel Matip remaining up in the air, there will come a time when Klopp may feel that he has little choice but to sign a new defender.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool hold an interest in eventually securing a deal for Rensch.

Despite being just 20 years of age, Rensch is already one of the longest-serving players in the first team, a consequence of some of the sales that occurred in the summer.

Furthermore, Rensch is already into three figures with regards to appearances, making 101 outings and chipping in with seven goals and six assists.

The one-cap Netherlands international is largely deployed as a right-back, but he has shown in the past that he is capable of featuring as a centre-back.

New Ajax interim head coach John van't Schip will be hoping that Rensch can play a key role in helping the Dutch giants move away from the Eredivisie relegation zone in the short term.

That said, it appears likely that Rensch's future will be away from Amsterdam with his contract due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season.

The report adds that Arsenal - who signed Jurrien Timber from Arsenal last summer - are also monitoring any developments with the player's future.

While a transfer fee is not mentioned, Ajax have already reached the territory where they may have to consider any significant proposals in January given that they would theoretically be unable to demand their valuation in the summer.
