Newcastle United are reportedly poised to step up their interest in Arsenal's Joe Willock following Emile Smith Rowe's contract extension.

Joe Willock could be on his way out of Arsenal following Emile Smith Rowe's contract extension, according to a report.

The Gunners announced on Thursday that Smith Rowe had signed a new long-term deal with the club - believed to be five years - and the 20-year-old will wear the number 10 jersey for the upcoming season.

Willock, meanwhile, starred during a six-month loan spell at Newcastle United last term, and Magpies manager Steve Bruce has voiced his desire to bring the Englishman back to St James' Park.

With Smith Rowe now tied down to the Gunners until 2026, Sky Sports News states that Newcastle could have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Willock.

The outlet claims that the Magpies are now poised to 'accelerate' their pursuit of the 21-year-old, who has allegedly told Arsenal that he wants to return to Newcastle on another loan deal.

Willock found the back of the net eight times in 14 Premier League games for Newcastle last season, and he has now entered the final two years of his Arsenal deal.
