Real Madrid could sign former Arsenal defender David Luiz on a free transfer, according to a report.

Real Madrid are reportedly open to the idea of bringing experienced centre-back David Luiz to the Bernabeu on a free transfer ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

Los Blancos allowed long-serving captain Sergio Ramos to leave this summer, while Raphael Varane is on the verge of completing a move to Manchester United.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have signed David Alaba on a free transfer, but the La Liga giants are said to be determined to bring another centre-back to the club in the coming weeks.

Nikola Maksimovic has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but according to Defensa Central, Luiz is also a target for the European giants.

The report claims that Luiz's experience appeals to Ancelotti's team, who will start their 2021-22 campaign with a trip to Alaves on August 14.

The 34-year-old is available on a free transfer this summer, having seen his contract with Arsenal expire at the end of June.

The 57-time Brazil international has also played for Vitoria, Benfica, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain during a well-travelled career, winning league titles in Portugal, England and France.
