Shakhtar Donetsk have reportedly rejected Arsenal's opening bid for winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.
The Ukrainian has been a target for Mikel Arteta's side this year and the Premier League leaders are understood to have made their move ahead of the January window.
According to The Evening Standard, the Gunners have had an opening offer of £55m rejected and they are preparing a second offer.
The club has said publicly that they want at least £85m for their star player, with Arsenal in the market to sign a wide forward to help with their title charge.
Mudryk, 21, has risen to prominence as a result of his performances this season, as well as his three goals and two assists in the Champions League.
In total for the season, he has 10 goals and eight assists in only 18 appearances, with his side sitting second in the Premier Liga.
